Bethesda have offered up new details concerning Dishonored 2 during their presentation at E3 2016, hot off the success of the original game.
Dishonored 2 will take advantage of a new engine named "Void," allowing for better lighting, more ambitious level design, interruptible cutscenes, and refined audio capabilities. Thanks to this, the game will also feature more dynamic environments with a focus on environmental storytelling. NPCs will also have their own schedules and patterned behaviour.
Corvo, the protagonist of the original game, returns as a playable character. He is joined by Emily Caldwin, now an adult and ruler of the empire. At some point, a usurper takes the throne, and the protagonists must trek all over the Empire of the Isles in an effort to restore power. The presentation footage featured fluid parkour-style gameplay, and showed off more verticality in level design. The combat system has been refined, featuring fatal and non-lethal takedowns, as well as parrying and the ability to take hostages.
New environments were also shown off, primarily Karnaca, "Jewel of the South," which is apparently where the bulk of the game will take place. Dunwall, the locale of the first game, will also be a playable location. Another gameplay demo, taking place in a new location called the "Dust district," featured a conflict between two opposing sides that the player can align themselves with. Another new mission takes place in an abandoned manor, and a special tool will allow the player to jump back and forth through time to solve puzzles and avoid enemies.
A collector's edition was also detailed, featuring replicas of Corvo's mask, Emily's ring, a wanted poster, and a steelbook cover. Dishonored 2 will be available on PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4. Along with this news, it was announced that all pre-orders of Dishonored 2 will come with a copy of Dishonored: Definitive Edition for free.
