A year after first being discussed, Dragon Quest X will be coming to Nintendo's upcoming console, codenamed the NX. In an interview with Famitsu magazine, DQX produce Yosuke Saito said this when asked about the MMO's player base:
I think there will be an influx of new players that peaks with the launch of the PS4 and NX editions. Up until then, rather than the incoming new players, we are doing our best for the people who are playing already.
Since Dragon Quest X's 2012 launch, the game has received three major updates. It is believed that the PS4 and NX versions will launch with the fourth update that is currently in development.
This does not answer the question most people have on their minds, and that is if the MMORPG will receive a Western release.
Discussions of bringing the game to Nintendo's Next Gen platform were first revealed in July 2015, when Square Enix announced that they were considering bringing Dragon Quest X and XI to the system. While this confirms a NX launch for Dragon Quest X, we still know nothing of the fate of the upcoming XI on NX. This is, however, a good sign that the console will have at least one Dragon Quest game ready for its March 2017 launch.
