In a recent interview on mcvuk, big titles like Star Wars: Battlefront, Halo 5, and Assassin's Creed Syndicate all sold under expectation. Gamestop have come out and told that the sales have not been as good as they expected them to be. All these three games are triple A games for the industry, so this might come as a surprise.
The CEO of Gamestop Tony Bartel said that the games “fell short of our expectations”. He continued with_ “We had high expectations that diminished somewhat as it got closer, and then it failed to hit those lowered expectations.” _
These games apparantly did not sell enough despite the games being this big. There were some games that actually sold to expectations and those were Call of Duty Black Ops 3 and Fallout 4. The drop in sales may have happened because of the increase of digital sales.
Gamestop have also had some controversy earlier this year when someone went through their dumpsters with broken gaming gear and games. The game store have made a shift to not just focus on games, but have a more broad approach to their business
