Most Console Game Releases Are Digital

According to EEDAR, a new research is saying that 66% of games are digital on consoles. Electronic Entertainment Design and Research is a research company that dives into software market. The research goes from 2008 all the way to 2014. You can see the big shift of how the digital market is taking over the console market. It's gone from being 60% retail games in 2008, to only 34% in 2014.

In the picture below you can see the research they've uncovered:

The image shows that there's been a shift since the seventh generation of gaming, we're getting more digital games than ever before.

Additional images show that overall releases have also gone down when it comes to retail compared to digital:

We can expect the digital games to be more prevalent in the future if the trend continues. Wether that is a good thing or a bad thing will be up to the reader. The fact is that we will see more releases digitally and less in retail. We do know sales have picked up very much the last few years as well when it comes to digital games as well. So many might not see the benefits in getting the games out to the stores themselves
